Lost in the West
For the last few months we've been on the road - the back roads and red dirt highways of WA - spending 10 weeks or so in and around the Upper Murchison and Gascoyne as well as the Pilbara regions of that vast state.
Bobswim waterhole. Hickman meteorite crater.
Peak Hill ruins.
Unseasonal rain meant we had to contend with wet roads and flooded creeks for a while but then the country began to bloom and it was magic.
Flood road north of Peak Hill. Ashburton River Crossing.
The Pilbara is an enjoyable place at any time but when there's more water than normal around and the country is tinged with the colour of wildflowers and the green of young spinifex, it's exquisite.
Ancient rock engravings & Our camp on the De Grey River.
As well as visiting the normal tourist spots such as Karijini NP we discovered lesser known secrets in the Cane River and Barlee Range nature reserves before heading to Newman and the oasis of the Waterhole Circuit.
Cross country near Barlee Range NR.
