10km east of Puerto Monte on Highway 7, 9km east of bus terminal. Turn left for 1.5 km.
Good facilities - power, hot water for 2 hrs, shelters, cooking shelter.

Rio BakerBush Camp - on Rio Baker
Loop Road Chile Chico to El Marten - Carretera Austral and back towards Argentina

1.5km off main road near ruins of old homestead beside edge of river.
No facilities. River cold and flowing strongly.

Bush camp site at old homestead site
Beside small lake - make a great camp - on the main road to the Argentina border. (We passed it.)
Loop Road El Marten back towards Argentina border.

Bush camp - on way to Torres del Paine

Camp on edge of road on way to Torres Del Paine, tucked in behind ridge on a section of the old road.

Daisi Camping - Puerto Natales (16/2/2011) - España Avenida
GPS 51° 43' 49.3" S / 72° 28' 20.4" W
Private house/trucking operation with an area at the back you can camp, large enough for all our vehicles. Bit rough - they don't get many campers and it was hard to find.
Large room opened for our use, with toilets that didn't flush - no water.
Lit wood heater for us so room was nice and warm.
Tables/chairs so you could eat inside. Power in room.
The lady owner allowed us to have a shower in her house.
Friendly people.
Cost 10,000 pesos per vehicle.

 

Camping Hain TolhuinCamping Hain (camp ground) - town of Tolhuin
GPS 54° 31' 31.5" S / 67° 13' 54.4 W
East side of lake situated by the shore, on the northern end.
Large area with Fogon (cabin/kitchen with oven, wood heater, table/benches).
Internet wireless available.
Quirky but with lots of character and the owners very friendly and helpful.

From Bolivia back into Chile

Camping Las Pesadeles - San Pedro de Atacama
GPS 22° 54' 47.7 "S / 68° 12' 01" W
Close to the centre of town (just a 150 metre walk) and has pretty reasonable basic facilities, flushing toilets and hot showers. No internet, plenty of internet access in town.

200mtrs north of bridge on Ruta 24, just east of the Pan American.
A bit of greenery, sheltered a little from the wind.

GPS 21° 38' 0.8" S / 70° 7' 58.6" W
About 200mtrs off the main road and just tucked in below a low cliff.
Just north of a small village with jetty and fishing operation.

 

 

 

 

tamarugal campgroundTamarugal Campground - Reserva Nacional Pampa del Tamarugal - Ruta 5
25km south of Pozo Almonte.
Reasonably large camping areas which are individually fenced (like cattle yards). Sandy, but shade under Tamarugal trees.
Supposedly power, but it didn't work.
There are basic but clean showers (cold) and toilets.
Pay a camping fee to the NP ranger, office located across the road opposite the camping area. 4000 pesos per site.

About 400m off the Pan American highway (about 20-25km north of Huara) amongst the shade of some Tamarugal trees.
No facilities.

 

 

 

 

 

Club de Campo Bienestar Camp Ground - ARICA
GPS 18° 29' 58.1" S / 70° 15' 41.4" W
9km along the Azapa Valley Road heading into the valley.
Basic facilities - hot shower, flushing toilet (we were given the use of one of the cabin's).
The whole ground/facilities are pretty poorly maintained.
Included power and a pool. No internet.
4000 pesos per person per night (around Aus$8).

 

blue gum camp chileBluegum Camp - bush camp - Zapahuira
GPS 18° 20' 2.4" S / 69° 36' 01" W
Heading to Chile/Bolivia border.
1km north of the main road and small village of Zapahuira, near a creek/aquaduct and a very large gum tree, at 3250mtrs.
Flat ground and good water in the aquaduct.
A very nice camp. In addition a few birds, green bushes and flowers.
