Nice small hotel on the edge of town with a large secure area inside the outer walls.
Grass, but not much shade.

You can use the toilet facilities (flushing toilets) at the restaurant.
Cost 30 bob per person, per night.

Dry Creek Camp - bush camp
GPS 18° 29' 38.7" S / 65° 11' 36" W
No facilities, but flat and small patch of green grass.
Situated near the Rio Caine, about 16km north of Puente Arce.

SUCRE - Hotel Austria
GPS 19° 2' 19.1" S / 65° 14' 47.3" W
Accommodation & parking for a couple of overland vehicles.
There is no camp ground in Sucre.
Hostel Austria is a fair size hotel on Av Alberto Ostria Gutierrez.
The hotel isn't far off the main entry road from Cochabamba and has a small but secure parking area and they'll supply power for the vehicles.
It's only a C-class hotel - a bit like Faulty Towers - but clean and tidy and the staff helpful, price about AUS$35/night for the two of us, breakfast (which isn't much) included.

mountain plateau campMountain Plateau Camp - bush camp
GPS 19° 47' 12.6" S / 66° 02' 19.1" W
After Potosi and heading towards Chiquilla.
Bleak and inhospitable at 3860mtrs. No facilities.

side road campSide Road Camp - bush camp
GPS 19° 48' 2.1"S / 66° 03' 38.5"W
12km north of Chiquilla and approx 10km further on from our camp above (Mountain Plateau Camp).
Take the old road, near and before a big bridge on the main road, which goes down to a beautiful mountain stream and some possible great camp sites.

salar de uyuniSalar de Uyuni - bush camp
On edge of salt lake (near monument) 2km west of Colchani which is just 20km north of Uyuni.
An amazing camp site, but very, very cold!!! No facilities.

trickling stream campTrickling Stream Camp - bush camp
GPS 21° 16' 50.8"S / 67° 16' 58.6" W
400mtrs off the road, 10-12km west of San Cristobal on way to Villa Alota.
Stream has water, but not drinkable. No facilities.

hospedaje las rogasHuayflajara - Hospedaje Las Rogas (Hostel)
Reserva Nacional Eduardo Avaroa - Laguna Colorado
Set about 2km from the southern shores of Laguna Colorado.
There was no camping around here (apart from bush camping) and with the wind and the altitude (about 4300m) accommodation is a better option.
The hostel costs 30B/night/person and another 15B for dinner each - a total of about A$7! The ablutions weren't great (no shower), power was only on for a few hours in the evening and the rooms were basic but clean. The beds were pretty comfy though. The place gets crowded with groups of backpackers all taking tours out of Uyuni.

cliff creek campCliff Creek Camp - bush camp
GPS 17° 36' 54.8" S / 68° 22' 2.2" W at 3800 metres
110km east of border on way to La Paz from Arica (Chile), 1km off highway in a dry creek bed with a low cliff. It kept the wind at bay. No facilities.

hotel oberlandLA PAZ - Hotel Oberland - Mallasa
GPS 16° 34' 06" S / 68° 05' 21" W
12km south of central La Paz in the Valle de Luna (Valley of the Moon).
Best access is south of La Paz on the Alto plateau - take the turnoff to Valencia, just north of Tranca and passing through the village of Zenkata. Otherwise you'll find yourself driving through the centre of La Paz, not something we recommend.
The camping area is pretty small but can fit about 4 to 5 smaller overland rigs in - it's a popular spot!!
Facilities include toilets, showers, power and WiFi. There's also a pool and spa.
Walter, the Swiss host, is helpful and a mine of information.
Cost if BS. 50.00 per day and person, Vehicles are free.
Check out the web site at:

Vacant block of land situated beside the Eco Lodge on the waterfront of Lake Titicaca, 2km west of the centre of town.
